Tapeball Rules

There are basic rules and then there are rules YOU MAKE UP along the way.

Tapeball — The Basic Rules

THE GOAL: Score 22+ points OR Land (PERFECTLY) on a star to automatically win AND get your initials forever on the game.

SET UP:

  • First Time Playing?: Make four (4) tape balls as game pieces out of the tape provided, sticky side rolled inside; tape balls are meant to roll, not stick.

  • Starting Position: With the two <pallets> connected on the floor, measure and mark (with painters tape) 5 feet (1.5 meters) away from the boards on the floor. Players must throw/roll behind this line.

  • Who Goes First: Each player rolls the dice - player with the highest number goes first.

** SPECIAL NOTE: While all Tapeball games have one-of-the-kind designs, the basics on How To Play and How To Win remain consistent.

HOW TO PLAY: Players take turns throwing/rolling four (4) tape balls onto the game boards to gain (break-even, or lose!) points all while shooting for the stars and making up new rules along the way.

After each roll, the player picks up own balls and places them in the origami ball holder to beautifully prepare the next player for their turn —> EXCEPTION: Winner can assign someone else to pick up their balls!

HOW TO WIN:

  • By Points: Players add the points of all four balls together based on where the balls landed:

    • Ends of the board = player gets to make up their own rule (See Rules on Rules below) AND gets 5 points

    • Side panel = 10 points

    • Rectangle = 3 points

    • Background = 0 points

    • Off board = -2 points

  • By Star Landing: This is the ultimate Tapeballer move! When a player lands perfectly on a star, without touching any other part of the board, the player automatic wins = game over = player gets to write initials where they landed to forever be remembered in the stars…. then a new game can begin!

RULES ON RULES:

  • New rule is for that game only, not all games. New games begin once a player wins either by points or by landing on a star.

  • Play fair (i.e.: creator of rule follows rule).

  • No rules around instant wins, point values, or initials on stars.

Mae, at 6 years old, had some of the most creative rules!

  • Wear a <teddy> bear on your head when playing

  • Say La La La and skip around the carpet <before every turn>

  • If you land on the game <board>, dance like no one is watching
